Primacorp Ventures’ Philanthropy Division Supports Seniors and Marginalized Community Throughout COVID-19 Pandemic

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

Primacorp Ventures’ Philanthropy Division is taking action in a time of need to support senior citizens and the marginalized community by enabling City in Focus reach their 2021 fundraising goal of $500,000.

As one of the founding members of City in Focus, Dr. Peter Chung, aims to support the needs of those outlined by Communities of Care.

Communities of Care’s focus is to provide for people in their immediate communities who experience food insecurity, poverty, homelessness and other issues with vital programs and connect them to services to meet their physical, material, social, and spiritual needs.

During the spring of 2020, City in Focus leaders realized that the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in hardship for a number of individuals, particularly vulnerable seniors and the marginalized community. Funding was first provided to seniors to expand services at long-term care facilities, as well as organizations that provided meal-delivery services to these senior homes. One initiative included donating mobile phones, so seniors could connect with their loved ones at home. Last year, $770,000 was raised to support senior citizens.

Now, as we enter spring 2021, these same leaders are looking to address the needs of BC’s marginalized community. Due to the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, many communities continue to be affected across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Communities of Care’s goal is to provide monetary funding to these organizations and individuals to combat the socio-economic challenges they are facing.

“Communities of Care offers a safe haven for this marginalized community, especially during this dire time,” says Dr. Peter Chung. “We are honoured and blessed to help people and connect them to services that allow them to meet their physical and emotional needs.”

The effort between City in Focus’s initiative and Communities of Care is coordinated through Union Gospel Mission. Learn more about City in Focus here.
