Primacorp Ventures’ Philanthropy Division Donates $32,000 to Korean Veterans Wall of Remembrance Bursary Fund

Tuesday, November 10, 2020

On behalf Primacorp Ventures' Philanthropy Division, Dr. Peter Chung has announced a donation of $32K for descendants of the Korean War. Sixteen descendants will be receiving two-thousand dollar bursaries, once the call for application is made in the coming weeks.

"As Grand Patron of the Korea Veterans Association Heritage Unit, I would like to commend Dr. Chung for the generous donation to The Korea Veterans National Wall of Remembrance Bursary Fund,” says Senator Yonah Martin. “This is a timely contribution during 2020 Veterans' Week and the start of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War years. Through our next generation, we will carry the torch with pride and honour, and ensure that the legacy of the Korean War is never forgotten. We will remember them. Nous nous souviendrons d'eux.”

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, Senator Martin – in partnership with Canadian veterans, National Korean community, and Regional Korean War Commemorative Committees – launched a three-year commemorative campaign called Korean War Forgotten No More.

As part of this special campaign, Senator Martin supported a student-led project – Intergenerational Integrities – which included 16 like-minded secondary students, who share a passion for writing, history, and learning. These students were tasked with interviewing veterans, one-on-one, to capture their life stories and memories of the Korean War.

“There are no words to capture the magnitude of sacrifices made by our Korean War veterans and the depth of gratitude we should all feel to be able to live in peace and freedom,” says Dr. Peter Chung. “I’m so thankful for our Canadian Forces, as I wouldn’t be living in this country if it wasn’t for them.”

In hearing about Senator Martin’s Korean War Forgotten No More 70th anniversary campaign, Dr. Chung brought forward the bursary proposal in honour of Korean War Veterans. An International Integrities Tribute Event was held on Saturday, November 7, 2020, where Dr. Chung made a surprise announcement about the bursary donation and delivered remarks of gratitude to Korean War veterans.

“We aim to honour your legacies by supporting the academic pursuits of your grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” says Dr. Chung.  “Therefore, as a token of our deep gratitude, we would like to present a special donation to The Korea Veterans Wall of Remembrance Bursary Fund, and entrust the Korean War Veterans of Canada Foundation to award bursaries to select descendants of our veterans of the Korean War.”

The remainder of the Tribute Event included a series of presentations from the students, where they had prepared a selection of poems, essays, and short stories, based on their interviews with Korean War Veterans.
